In Custody Death At Jackson County Jail

Jackson County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on March 25.

On Thursday March 24, 2022 at approximately 1:00 PM, Corrections Deputies discovered an inmate at the Jackson County Jail in the process of hanging himself from a bed inside his cell. The inmate, Phillip DODSON age 45 of Eastridge, TN., was immediately provided first aid by Corrections Deputies and Emergency Medical personnel from Highlands Ambulance Service.  DODSON was then transported to the Jackson County Hospital Emergency Room where he was later pronounced dead.

As is the case with any IN CUSTODY DEATH, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) was contacted and responded to investigate this incident.
