Cost of college went up for all students at Snead State Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 6.7 percent for 2018-19 at Snead State Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Alabama residents paid $4,800 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $300 more than the $4,500 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 80.6 percent more than residents this year, or $8,670. Their price tag grew 7.4 percent from $8,070 in 2017-18.

About 95 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Alabama residents. And about 2 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 92 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 471 students received grants or scholarships totaling $3.1 million and 92 students took out student loans totaling more than $410,994.

Including all undergraduates (2,280), 1,682 students used grants or scholarships totaling $9.3 million, and 483 students took out $2.4 million in federal student loans.
