During the first quarter of 2026, Mark Sims held ownership of Cloverdale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Situated in Jackson County, the facility has remained under Sims’s ownership since May 1, 2022.

The center operates as a for-profit nursing facility.

Over the same quarter, Cloverdale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center received an overall CMS rating of four. This rating surpasses the state average score for nursing homes, which is 3.0 in Alabama. The CMS evaluates these ratings using health inspection results, staffing figures, and resident care quality.

Data show an average daily census of 124.3 residents during the first quarter of 2026, with a total bed capacity of 141. The facility is not affiliated with a hospital.

The nursing home recorded no fines or penalties for the first quarter of 2026.

Jackson County, Alabama, only had one for-profit nursing facility in total.

U.S. Census Bureau figures show continued national growth among older adults, while counts for younger populations trend downward. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of Americans 65 or older climbed by 13%, and the population under age 18 dropped by 1.7%. The country’s older adult population has increased sharply over the past 100 years, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

As noted in a 2021 brief, nearly half of older adults — about 28 million — may require long-term services and support, with over a third predicted to eventually need care in a nursing facility.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
