FOIA Request to Northeast Alabama Community College Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, NE Alabama News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Northeast Alabama Community College. The request seeks detailed information concerning the college’s Chinese National students, their scholarships, and policies related to intellectual property protection.

Specifically, we have requested documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If this information is protected, we have asked for a total count of such students and a breakdown by department. Additionally, we are seeking records detailing any scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.

Further inquiries include identifying recipients of scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council and obtaining any existing policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard its intellectual property and confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of NE Alabama News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As members of the media dedicated to informing the public and holding institutions accountable, we believe access to these records is crucial for ensuring transparency. We have also requested a fee waiver given our role in disseminating information as media professionals.
